St. Coen’s N.S. Green School's Project
In 2018, the first Green School Committee was set up in St. Coen's NS, Rathnew. The committee and school community worked really hard over the following two years on reducing litter and waste in the school and surrounding area.
On November 10th 2020, we proudly raised our Green Flag and we hope that it is the first of many. We are committed to this initiative and together we can help towards a cleaner and greener future. Here's what two committee members had to say:
"When I was on the Green School Committee, we made posters to stop people from smoking on the school grounds and dropping their rubbish. We tried to stop people littering and we did litter-picking around the school. I got to raise the Green Flag for the school as we could not invite a local celebrity due to Covid-19."

"Being on the Green School Committee is fun because we get to think of lots of ideas to stop using plastic and how to become more environmentally friendly. We checked where all the plastic and litter was coming from. We asked the builders to be careful of how they disposed of their coffee cups at the building site next to our school. After all of our hard work, we got our Green Flag."
